Pillar Farm’s mission is to be a place of refuge and safety

that promotes independence, wellness and acceptance; while enabling adults with moderate to severe disabilities to thrive, grow and learn in a community that enhances the quality of life for each of them and their families.

The dream that became Pillar Farms

was birthed out of a desire for my son, Trey (who is non-speaking and was diagnosed with Autism at age 4) to have a place that would be a safe haven to live, thrive, grow, and help him find his way into adulthood and independence. I was without a blueprint or a roadmap for what he would do when his high school years came to an end. Upon graduating from high school, most teenagers are able to choose from thousands of post-secondary schools or trade schools. From there, they are free to explore a variety of career paths. For the “typical” young adult, the options and possibilities seem endless and most times they are unless ... they are diagnosed with Autism or any other intellectual or physical disability. For Trey and so many others like him, these hopeful possibilities are limited and in some ways nonexistent. After a great deal of research and prayer, I began to imagine what a facility that caters to individuals with moderate to severe disabilities would look like. Eventually, I decided that if I could dream of the ideal facility, I could create the ideal facility. This is the dream that became Pillar Farms.

Pillar Farms will offer a complete adult day program and will also have full time residents. The available programs will mirror the options that were received in High School: Speech Therapy, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Music and Art Classes, Daily Living Skills, and Vocational Skills. There will also be an Agricultural Program along with Community Based Learning and Instruction.

As any parent of a child with special needs knows, a looming question that plagues you most of their lives is: “what will happen to them when I am no longer here or able to care for them?” Pillar Farms is the answer to this question, not just for Trey and our family, but for every family that has ever asked this question and then felt hopeless and afraid when confronted with the lack of options. Pillar Farms exists to fill this void for today and for generations to come. I have always known that my mission is to help Trey find his way in this world and now I’ve added many more individuals who will call Pillar Farms their home.
